Week 11.....It is now official..April was the warmest Nome April of all time....unfortunately May might have been the coldest...

I am starting this post on June 7.   Today the temperature climbed to a balmy 42 degrees.  Two days ago it made it up into the 50's.  That was for one day.  The 10 day forecast is calling for more of the 40's.   Things are just not greening up like they should.  Even the Nomites are starting to complain, that summer is not here.
Some of the biggest news in my life is that I am the proud owner of a Polaris ATV.  I now have wheels!

I made it out fishing last Sunday.  It lasted for about 2 hours.  38 degree temperature, standing in 40-50 degree water, and with a 10 mph wind, it got cold fast.  Plus the fish were not biting...    My fly rod ended up breaking so I had to get it returned, and am waiting for a replacement.
This is the Nome River, where I was fishing.  It was serene.

This was the fire I started.  I wanted to have the fire started before I started fishing.  You never know when you will have to warm up (let's just say often).

The leaves are trying to come out,  but as you can tell by the next picture they don't look to be in the majority. :(
I took the next picture on the way out.  I wanted the scenery, because any moment now, this will all be green (so I am told).   If you look really close you will see the moose.
Do you see her yet?  She is down in the river.
Down there on the sandbar.  She had run into a grizzly at some point as well.

On the 50 degree day, I took a ride back up Anvil Mountain to get some more pictures.
The fog was absent this time.
A lot of the snow was also gone.

Out there is the anvil shaped rock that gives this mountain its name.
The "anvil", a closer look.  That is Sledge Island in the background.

The anvil, Sledge Island, and 3 people walking back towards me. (see them?)

There is a little green on Anvil Mountain as well!

Then I headed out the Kougarok again to find some more fishing spots.
There is a little green out there.  This is more of the Nome River valley.

 Green stuff.  Not much.
Now we are getting more!  It ain't easy being green.

This looks like a promising place to do some fishing.
Make a mental note, take a picture, and wait for a new rod!

As you can tell the sun was shining.   I have really come to understand one fact, while in Nome.  I have always known this fact, but it has become much clearer since being here.
That fact:
There is a difference between daylight, and sunshine.  Nome has LOTS of daylight
(sunrise 4:37 am - sunset 1:25 am)
Sunshine is another story
I hope you are enjoying my posts.   Please feel free to tell your friends and family to check it out.  Thank you.
