Vehicles of Nome.

There are a lot of unusual vehicles in Nome.  Vehicles with wheels, tracks, and skis.  There are planes, trains, boats, ships, kayaks, canoes, even a submarine vessel.  There are gold dredges, which are kind of like vacuum cleaners on party barges.  There are cars, pickups, and motorcycles.  It does not sound unusual, until you remember that EVERYTHING that is here has to be shipped up.  They can fly vehicles smaller than your medium size SUV, but most stuff has to come on a barge.
Some vehicles just make sense.  A snow machine or snowmobile in most winters is a dependable mode of travel
ATV's & UTV's are also very handy.  Getting across the beach, or mud, or small trails.
Some vehicles are just old.   Since they have to be shipped up here
Every last bit of life has been used out of them.  You can still buy them.
This Land Rover has seen time in Rapid City, SD
Not sure what year it was made.
Here are a few old Ford pickups.   This first one looks to be at rest.
The green one, may still be running.
This is a nice old pick-up, that is still running.
This GMC is probably the nicest old vehicle on the roads of Nome.
This old bronco seems to be a "horse of many colors."
Even an old Internationsl is present.  Since the window has been down for months, I think its running days are gone.
I have seen an ARGO before.  It would be very useful up here, with all the tundra, beach, bogs, and other questionable traction situations.
I believe this must be an Eastern European military vehicle.  It still runs.  I have had a hard time tracking it down.  I finally found it parked again.
This is the submarine gold dredging unit.  I was told they tried it for a year, but it did not work well.  It kept trying to roll over.
Some mini-trucks have arrived from Japan.  Someone will often bring up a shipping container full of them, to sell.
Then modifications are made.  Wheels are off and tracks are on.
Some vehicles are purely, "pure white North."
These things give tourist rides during the Iditarod. (if they are running)
This beast has seen better days, and looks to be used for parts.
 This camo-vehicle looks fun.
Now this is a school bus.
 Another tracked vehicle.
This next vehicle looks to be in great shape.  Not sure what it is used for, other than across some snowy landscape.
Motorcycles are also here.  Now dirt bikes make a lot of sense.
Some older, smaller bikes were also probably handy.
 This is an old Honda.
Some bikes seem to be questioning whether the person had more money than sense?
There are only 2-3 paved streets in the Nome area.
Street bikes would seem to lack much usefulness.
I am told there is a Harley running around.  I have not seen it yet.

The old pick-up makes sense, but the corvette?  Again, there are only a few miles of paved streets.
The good old reliable small bush planes.  There are a lot of runways in the area.
