This was the sunset over Safety Sound on Friday night, as we made our way out toward camp.
This was the morning views to which we awoke.
The clouds were burning off, from the hills on the West side of the Fox River.
Those are stones, not snow, on the ground. In case you were wondering.
Before we took off on an a bear hunt/sight seeing, we did a little work around the camp. Here I am pounding a pole into the ground, as Curtis, and Tanner supervise. As the old man of the group, I had to show them how to do it correctly.
Here I took the supervisory role, as Valerie pounded a pole in the ground. Curtis and Tanner miraculously disappeared. :) We placed 3 poles. Curtis and Kamey are going to run chains between the poles for their sled dogs. In the winter, the road is not maintained, so snow machine, or dog sled will be used for access.
We then were greeted with an mid morning rainbow
We could see the 1/2 circle. It was around for a long time.
I am not sure how many pictures I took of this one rainbow. I decided to stop the show at 4.
On the tundra in places were these little red plants. They looked out of place.
The rest of the tundra looks pretty much like this.Yellow and brown are the dominant colors of autumn.
More yellow, more brown. Yes those are "REAL" evergreen trees in the background. There are trees in them thar' hills!
This is a back of a rescue cabin. It was built on a winter trail ~ 1/2 way between Golovin and Council. If the storms get bad, or you need shelter, this cabin comes to the rescue.
If you look to the left of the picture just on the other side of the river, is a bull moose.
He is "moose big", but small for a bull moose. He is in the center of the below picture.
The pictures did not come out, but with binoculars I could see the villages of White Mountain, and Golovin. The plan is to spend the next 3 days in those villages.
Lovely fall colors! Is this the color of the foliage all season long or is there a green season as well in the summer?
ReplyDeleteJulie, the foliage does have a "green" season. It is just very short lived. Lot of sunlight hours, just not many days.
