Nome is a small village. As I said in my last post, it is NOT the most picturesque village. It reminds me of Walthill, NE. A larger and slightly nicer version of Walthill. The Catholic church in both is St. Joseph's. Walthill has more paved streets. Nome has an airport. Walthill has more elevation inside the city limits. Nome has more just outside the city limits. The countryside outside of Walthill is sparsely populated, and relatively quiet. The countryside outside of Nome is less populated, and silent. There is beauty in the rural area surrounding Walthill. The beauty of the area surrounding Nome is amazing.
Overcast skies, and kind of foggy
Old mining dredge.
Small whirlpool in the Solomon River where the East and West forks meet.
Last stop on the Iditarod Trail
I was told this is a dog tie off at Safety Roadhouse
There is a seal on the ice. I don't have enough telephoto ability on my camera.
Sun trying to burn through the overcast 7:30pm
The Train to Nowhere.
We did not make it to Skookum Pass or the rest of the way to council. That will have to be on another post.
